About DevConnect

DevConnect is a technical recruiting firm founded and run by Jesse and Matt, two software engineers who, after years of being contacted by recruiters who didn't fully grasp the technical needs of their clients, felt inspired to create a better option for everyone.

When we started working as developers, we were surprised by some of the shortcomings of the technical recruitment industry.

In theory, technical recruiting is a great idea. It could save companies significant time and money during expensive and wearying hiring processes. In practice, we often see the opposite. Talented recruiters lack the technical expertise to make informed decisions about who might be a good fit for a developer role. The strategy is often to throw spaghetti at the wall and see who sticks. The consequences are familiar to many developers: vague job descriptions, mismatched roles, unhelpful screening questions, and long interview processes just to understand what a new position entails.

As we learned how much companies were paying for this kind of recruiting, it didn’t make sense to us. These recruiters felt like unnecessary middle men. But we also saw something important: the industry has real potential. The problems aren’t unsolvable; they’re structural. And the solutions are implementable.

While we questioned why these recruitment limitations were not being addressed, we began volunteering a little time here and there to help hiring managers find quality developers. Fellow devs were doing the same. It worked. Friends, colleagues, and former coworkers in our network were getting hired into roles that truly fit them. Eventually, we decided to formalize that work.

And that is how DevConnect came to be. A company made up of engineers, and only engineers, who want to help you succeed.

Together, we bring over fifteen years of experience as developers. We know how to evaluate developers realistically, how to ask the questions candidates actually care about, and how to identify poor fits early, before time is wasted on both sides.

Here's how we work:

We start by understanding your needs. We take the time to sit down with you and get clear on the role, the team, and what success actually looks like. Our goal is to give you an experience that feels much closer to working with an internal technical recruiter than an external agency.

When we present candidates, we’re transparent. We share strengths and weaknesses and we don’t oversell. We’re focused on long term partnerships with companies that value quality over speed and fit over volume.

We don’t cold call candidates. We work from a trusted network of engineers we know personally, and when we don’t know someone directly, we check references. Every candidate we present is technically screened, with both hard and soft skills evaluated specifically for your role and your organization.

We work hard to earn our finder’s fee, but we don’t charge inflated recruiting rates. We offer a flat fee below market because we believe high quality technical recruiting should be accessible, not exclusive.

She has worked extensively with contemporary frameworks, tooling, and testing strategies, building production systems that prioritize maintainability, performance, and real world usability.

Alongside her technical work, Jesse has a natural instinct for understanding people. She enjoys discovering what others are good at, recognizing the environments where they can thrive, and helping connect them with opportunities where their strengths can shine. Known for her curiosity, empathy, and ability to read both people and teams, she brings a thoughtful and human centered approach to every collaboration.

As a co-founder of DevConnect, Jesse helps ensure that technical evaluation is grounded in real engineering experience while also focusing on the human side of hiring. Her goal is to create meaningful connections between developers and companies, supporting teams and individuals so they can do their best work.

Matt is a senior full stack engineer with extensive experience growing and leading development teams within both startups and enterprise organizations. His background spans modern web architecture, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems, with a strong focus on building scalable platforms and engineering teams that can support them.

Throughout his career, Matt has played a key role in shaping development teams, mentoring engineers, and creating collaborative environments where people can do their best work. He has a strong ability to understand how individuals think and work, and he brings a thoughtful, people centered perspective to leadership and technical decision making.

At DevConnect, Matt applies his experience as both an engineer and team builder to recruiting. He focuses on understanding how teams function, what skills they truly need, and how different personalities and working styles fit together. His goal is to help companies build engineering teams that are not only technically strong, but also cohesive, supportive, and built to last.
